Electronic turn signal relay

Postby striker308 » 04 May 2008 14:36

Anyone know of a dealer/vendor for the electronic turn signal relay? Yesterday, my son and I took the TR7 for a drive and only the left turn signal would work. So I went to my FLAPS and got some bulbs to replace the right side..........it was fine. The Hazard flashers work fine.

Now even the left turn signal will only work for 1-2 seconds. Thought it might be a good time to upgrade the relay.

Thanks,

Mine did the same until about 30 minutes ago. From Autozone I got an electronic signal flasher, Tridon-Stant part #EP35. 12 volt - three terminals.

Made a ground wire for it, used an existing screw to ground it to the body and plugged the wires right onto it.

On the TR7/TR8s, the right and left turn signal use the same flasher
relay. If your right turn indicators work, but not the left, then
the problem might be in the turn signal column stalk switch.

The Hazard flasher is a second, different relay than that which is
used for the turn indicators.

I used Tridon/Stant LF12. I'm not sure if its internals are an
electronic timer circuit or a bi-metal strip.

Tim, thanks for the Autozone suggestion. The Local store didn't have any in stock........so, I ordered it online.

Thanks,

So, my new electonic Flasher relay came today. I see a terminal for +, - and ground. The original doesn't have a + and - . Both wires are a green color with purple line. I know I will need to create a ground wire for the new one. Does this sound right??

Glad I looked in on this topic as my indicators seem to work when they want and have a mind of there own. I will try the same fix and see if it works for me[:)]

Both of my signals just stopped working and my hazard only blinks the right side. What would cause something like this?

bad ground at one of the left side bulbs I guess. I went the electronic flasher relay route, grounded it under the dash, and all is fine.

are your bulbs good? Is the spade terminal on the socket clean? Did you ground the electronic relay with a new ground somewhere under the dash?

If you check your wiring diagram you will see the turn signal routes through the hazard switch (uses different contacts in the switch.) If the contacts are corroded the hazard may work but signals may not. Or you may have hazard problems as well as noted above. I have stated in previous posts they go through headlight switch (going from memory... not a good idea at my age.) I apologize for this previous misinformation. The contacts in these switches are copper and corrode easily. I would take the hazard switch apart and clean. Take pictures as you do this. While not as complex as the headlight switch you want to put it together right and not do it from memory. I had the symptom of not turn signals although I saw one side flick on faintly once. After cleaning switches all was well. (good idea to do the headlight switch at same time.)
