OK, over the winter my throttle body has become stiff. I fitted a new and proper return spring, and th ecable is smooth.

Anyone run into this with a FI model?

I took it for a drive in the park yesterday and it was great. The new steering and shifter bushes made an insane differrence. Braking was an issue at 3000 RPM.

No. If the cable is smooth, oil pivots on gas pedal and pivots on throttle valve. Not too much else there. Full throttle A/C cut out switch should only come into play at full throttle.

Steering and shifter bushing condition is crucial. Did you use poly?

I only brake at under 1500 rpm.[:D]

Just read write up on TR7 by major US car mags. They said brakes will lock up front wheels but are easily modulated. I find the brakes on my TR7 similar to those on my Tercel and Integra. (Lots of pressure needed to lock up.)

When I pull the cable off the throttle lever, the throttle should be pretty "floppy", and it's not. It doesn't seem to snap back, even with the cable disconnected.

I did shoot some silicon (WD-40) down all over that assembly, trying to get between all the parts the TB itself. I'll see if that has loosened it up yet.

I wonder if the gas has just gummed up from sitting all winter. It wasn't like this a couple months ago.

The throttle valve (sticking part) never sees any gasoline. The cold start injector is in the air plenum (after) and the injectors are just before the valves. If the throttle valve is sticking with cable off, the binding must be at the shaft and bearings if there is no mechanical binding or anything interfering with the lever mechanism. I'm not sure what the shaft/bearing should be lubed with, maybe the carbs guys will suggest something. Typically are they not a bronze bearing? Something like sewing machine oil? WD-40 should be good to loosen it up but not enough substance to permanently lube it I would think. Utimately may have to take it off to see what is actually happening if no joy other wise.

Well, I moved the TR7 from the workshop (where I do my fiberglass and where the service pit is) to the big garage a couple days ago. I had sprayed it all over with WD-40 until I had time to pull it.

I started it up this evening and it's fine. while I'm admiring the moder-day miracle, I notice how dusty the car is (from being in the fiberglass workshop).

As it stands, it looks like since it was sitting for 3 months with the hood up in the ultra-dusty workshop, it was just bound up with all the dust from my workshop. So, a good engine cleaning is in order.

Wee! I was able to drive it around tonight! Oh, and my neighbor gave me a floor standing band saw tonight-good neighbor-with a new 80" blade!
