RJS, that spoiler looks good. If it is heavy, you will have to retro-fit the boot strut (works like the bonnet strut). I would also get hold of a spare boot lid incase you want to go original again.

Hi,
The 'Turbo' spoiler is made from a foam type substance, was available in a range of body colours. You can get very sticky type foam tape we use at work to stick spoilers on BMW's there may even be a part number for it so anyone can order it will investigate if that helps anyone [?]
These guy's use too and probaly do still do tuning goodies for Montego Turbo's so may be able to advice where you can lay your hands on one-

Think the guys up at S+S Preperation supplied them [?] Steve [?] but not 100% sure

John, you are correct, we found that the Montego Turbo spoiler was a perfect fit to the TR7 in the late 80's.They are IMO the best spoiler for the DHC, they don't look as good on the FHC.The old RS style spoiler is better suited to the FHC.

I'll dig out a photo and post it later of the Turbo spoiler.

Hi,
I agree with you Steve, the worse thing being, i had 4 laying around with very minor paint defects that i changed under warranty when these were new and i worked at an Austin Rover dealership they did'nt have to go back under warranty. When i moved house 8 years ago i binned them [:0] [V] [:(!].I only had my FHC at the time and was'nt mad keen on the look on the FHC (suits the lines of a DHC IMHO) Cant keep everything but why is it the stuff you throw away eventually would help someone out[?]
Cheers John.

People are concerned about a boot strut if I put on the spoiler. I have a great boot strut now. I call it a stick.

One of the many things I have on my list to fix on my car (but way down on the list right now).

I flooded my boot lid with waxoyl many years ago. It's twice as heavy than standard but it hasn't rusted through yet. Gas struts used to hold it fine until I did that........

Spoiler,
I would like some info. on the black spoiler that is on Lebochet9's TR. Is that the stock type or aftermarket one that was on early TR's? Was it a heavy rubber type? Would it fit next to boot rack?
Would boot brace hold it up, or would it fall on your head or hand?
Like the look on a HTC.

It is the heavy rubber type. Made up foam rubber, with vinyl shrunk over it. I think there is a kind of steel structure in the centre. I'm not sure of the manufactuirng process...I bought it off fleabay, and it was advertised as a TR7 spoiler. I believe it was an original fitment somewhere. You do have to drill holes in the bootlid (Measure 20 times - drill once) and I did that before the paint... The (new) gas boot struts hold it up with no problem, once its past about halfway up. I wanted to fit a warning triangle inside the boot lid (ala BMW / Mercedes etc) but did not get round to that yet and of course it will not help the cauase of "keeping it up" [;)]
