Is there an alternative to these?

I never look forward to replacing the rubber exhaust hangers / o rings. I use a piece of copper fuel tubing bent to shape as a puller to spend around an hour using up to 3 limbs grunting these in to place.

It looks like only Triumph used these on their cars. Has anyone found anything different that works well?

I use a hook pick tool, lots on ebay, something like these, but very easy to make your own

They're made for loosening radiator hoses, but are good for rubber exhaust hangers too!

ring fits.I'm sure I have aftermarket O rings as my muffler sat sideways and the tube coming out the back had Thrush muffled dual chrome tips (which was quite heavy). When that muffler burned through I put on an SS Magnaflow that was the same size and had the tips welded on. That lasted a few years until my 3,000 mile trip down to Santa Maria it (the tips) broke off and started dragging on the road south of Monterey on #1, pulled over ripped them off and left them on the side of the road. They were pretty much done. Car had a more guttural sound but still not bothersome on extended highway driving. Use whatever size fits.

Quite a few manufacturers used rubber hanger "O" rings, be worth calling in at your local exhaust place and asking what they have. I get mine from Robsport and they seem to last a couple of years so not too bad.

I get about 18 to 24 months before the O rings from the usual suppliers start to stretch and degrade.

Has anyone tried using something similar to these which provide resistance to both upward and downward movement?

I have these on my Sunbeam Lotus and they do the job well

I think I may have tried some like these as I had them lying around (used on Saab 9000's) but could not stretch them on (IIRC). There is somewhere which does poly 'O' rings which are said to last better but I can't find the link now.

Yes, they may work well once in position.

Working them in to position would be a different matter.
