V5 / log book fell through the letter box today after 7 weeks. Historic status, all other info good.

Just checked the V5 and it does all match the old one so no problem there. What did surprise me was that they sent a personal letter with the returned documents, I only expected a Compliments slip.

However, I do note that the engine No on the V5 does not match that on the Heritage Certificate.

V5 is CG19875HE
Heritage Cert is CG359039HE

Assuming they are right I presume this means the engine was swapped at some time for a much earlier one?

My V5c dropped through the letterbox this morning all good and correct..............But no returned Heritage Certificate though Maybe that will come at a later date

Yes, it does. I received the Heritage Certificate and other documents about a week after the V5. The letter accompanied the documents, I guess it takes time to type out the letters.

On my Heritage Certificate that I have recently received the engine number is obviously the original 2 litre engine number, as the car was converted to V8 back in '94 will this stop the car being classed as historic therefore not eligible for free road tax, i am not bothered about the exemption as I will always have the car tested each year.
Just wondered about this anomaly as there seems to be a lot of grey issues.

"Vehicles that do not need an MOT
You do not need to get an MOT if:

the vehicle was built or first registered more than 40 years ago
no ‘substantial changes’ have been made to the vehicle in the last 30 years, for example replacing the chassis, body, axles or engine to change the way the vehicle works"

Cheers for the info Stevie, as there seems to be no clear cut info on the road fund issue
if the engine and suspension has been changed even though the car is over 40 years of age
I was unsure if the car would be RFL free, as far as the mot is concerned it will be tested every year regardless.

With regard to my engine, CKS has come back on FB and said that the engine is out of a 1978 Canley car but I have no idea when it might have been changed. When I bought it 15 years ago nothing was mentioned so I assume it was long before that with a previous owner.

The changing of engines in these seems to be a bit of a grey area. Changing to a 'Rover' V8 generally seems to get away with it as they did produce the TR8 with a form of that engine so it is not a 'substantial change' to the original production cars.

My V5 has had the V8 engine no. and displacement of 3528cc on it since conversion.

1) The V8 engine has been in my car for over 30 years. Tick

2) The V8 engine was a type of change made when the vehicle was in production or in general use (within 10 years of the end of production) Tick

3) The car has not been substantially changed in the last 30 years. Tick

4) The Historic vehicle MOT exemption is a self declaration. Tick

On the basis of points 2 & 4, a TR7V8 qualifies for MOT exemption.

However, I will regularly put the V8 Wedge through a garage safety check / MOT. It’s too powerful not too, purely for the brake check alone.

Bit late to the party. However I bought my latest TR7 V8 Convertible 8 weeks ago, it was registered June 81. Had to pay £280 VED. Invested in heritage certificate, showed build date as January 1980. Photo copied it & sent to DVLA with V5, & covering letter requesting change to historic class. 4 weeks later got new V5 with appropriate changes & following day a cheque for£233.33. All sorted & as V8 was fitted over 30 years ago it's MOT exempt as well. Have majority of MOT certificates & 1986 one shows engine as 3528cc. So all good
