Do you have a spare (ratty, leaking) heater matrix for A/C car?

Postby sbs » 13 Feb 2018 10:43

Short version:

Do you have a spare/busted A/C heater matrix that you can send to England for reproduction?

I'm happy to pay the shipping.

Long version:

You probably know that new heater matrices for A/C cars are unavailable.

I ran across a company in England (Foursome Vehicle Heaters) which has a catalog item which is listed for the TR7, and has the correct dimensions for the A/C car, but oddly has the pipe location like the non-A/C car.

P/N 20696 at this link:

http://vehicleheaters.co.uk/Heater%20Ma ... iumph.html

I asked them about producing a variant with the correct A/C piping, and they can do so, will sell for GBP 85 + shipping, and just need an
original to work from. (That's probably an ex-VAT price).

They also are aware of the unavailability of the original seals, and their replacements have straight pipes instead.

I'd prefer to not ship my one and only matrix overseas, so - does anybody have a spare, maybe a leaky old one that they don't need, that they can
volunteer for this?

These guys might also be a cheaper source for non-A/C cars as well (P/N 20928 on the above link).

Thanks!
Steve

If you get one made make sure you get rid of the one push fit connection.
The lower one on th eleft the matrix in th epicture below. Have it replaced with a normal pipe connection.

I presume you tested the matrix for leaks?

That's the plan!

My car is actually leak-free but I'm refurbishing the interior and I'm not going to put a 40-year-old heater matrix back in.

I was exploring the idea of adapting one from another car when I ran across these guys.

In hindsight, if I'd been searching for "matrix" as well as "core" I would have found them sooner...

I'd certainly buy one. I've been without a heater in my A/C equipped TR7V8 since it started dripping green coolant into the passenger footwell about a decade ago...

I will update the forum when we have something to show. I'm pretty sure it's not a matter of "if" but of "when."

Here is the web store for this company - they have the non-A/C heater core for 30% less than the usual suspects:

I have a NOS one complete with original seals (nothing much more than a bit of foam!)
Will post a picture

When I restored my DHC (2009-2010) I used the A/C heater unit from a 1981 donor car.
And although the heater was completely stripped I did re use the original heater matrix. And so far it has been fine ...
