what would be the correct pressure on a 1980 tr7 carb engine if one was to check the pressure to see if i have a broken ring, thanks chuck

Err, not sure exactly but I should guess at 160 - 170 psi?

More importantly, how does each cylinder compare to the others? If you get one that is significantly lower from the others then that will be suspect. I think they should be within 10% of each other.

Hi Chuck,
As Tony says 160-170 psi for UK spec is fine on a US spec you guys had lower compression ratio 8.0:1 as against 9.25:1 so a shade lower readings but should as stated, be within 10% of each other. Also quirt some oil down the plug hole and recheck if dramatic improvement then cylinder bore / piston problem.

Mine checked out at between 95 psi and 107 psi. It is a 1980 carbed US spec engine, all original (meaning I don't think it's ever been rebuilt or anything). I think it is probably on the low side, but it runs good!
