which alloys

Postby gaz » 18 Feb 2008 07:36

whilst my motor is sitting waiting for the head gasket to be looked at i'm dreaming of what it could look like with a set of allternative rims on....
i don't know if any of you guy's looked at the auction i lost out on the other day or were following it (or maybee its just me that ramdomly follows autions)
but there were what i would call nice set of wolfrace (possibly turbos) thats the kind of thing i would be after now they don't have to be wolfrace i notice other makers make similar ones
i am looking at the second hand market as my budget is always somewhat..... limited
now i quite often see mgf wheels advertised as a fit for the TRT7 are these just a straight fit assuming ive done no brake mods, or go for oversized tyres
and also what other wheels (from cars of a similar age to the TR7) will go staight on i know some people have used maistro (thats not spelt right) wheels but as i remember they had odd ball tyres that cost a small fourtune

Gaz - I've got 15" MGF wheels on my DHC - they fit straight on in most cases, occasionally there's an issue with the centre bore being a tight fit. I had this problem - 6mm spacers sorted it (quite cheap from S+S). I've got bigger brakes (again thanks to S+S) which fit under the MGF wheels, but the standard brakes will give you no problems. Check out my car on My Photos - it's on MGF alloys there.

Maestro wheels are 14" (I believe) but have the same stud spacing and centre bore - I have four 14" Rimstock alloys in my garage which were on my car for a year or so, and use normal tyres. They were marketed as suitable for TR7/Maestro. The Maestro standard steel wheels had no special tyre requirement.

Hope this helps

Mike
