Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Mystical indeed, I'll stick to Castrol SMX-S synthetic gear oil with a viscosity of SAE 75W-85 [8)]
It even got my R380 'box to behave a little bit.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">

Both my cars have Castrol SMX in the boxes. The DHC box is is a second hand unit of unknown mileage fitted by a PO, the other is the original box in my FHC with 13K miles from new. The Castrol gear oil works well - both still baulk just a little from 1st to 2nd when dead cold, but after that very smooth.

Alright, just thought I would add this. I have about 500 miles on the gear box since switching to ATF, and as I said before I have 160,000 miles on my 1994 Ford Ranger 5 spd gear box(ford has run ATF in their manuals for quite a few years now) and no problems, and so far the TR7 shifts better and smoother when it is cold and does not whine, chatter, shudder or whatever one poster said he experienced with ATF. When I reach 1000 miles I will consider changing to MTF, or possibly going to the Castrol 75W synthetic product. As of now, I am quite happy with the way it performs and no longer have to fight to get it into second gear when cold. Another note, I am pretty sure this engine is an eight valve 2L and I seem to have plenty of power. My rear wheels constantly want to break loose when I take off(new tires before anyone asks), and I can flat out run in 5th gear, up hill and down, no problems. So my question is, just how much power do some of you guys need? Don't take me too serious on this last question, American sense of humor trying to escape. I also get about 35 MPG running in fifth.

Can't say I've broke the wheels loose but I have enough power but could use more going up steep driveway at lower rev's or one very steep hill in Surrey at lower rev's. That being said I was happy with power at 2300 rpm in 5th going over the Shasta Mountain range, only had to shift down twice in steep grades when RPM dropped down to 2000 RPM by my inattention. (Wheel vibration prevented higher RPM/speed). I did get 40 MPG (imperial) on that run, 9 hours at 50 MPH, top up, windows down including back window.

I don't know if this is small enough or not but here is the beauty in all its glory! Off white, replaced hood because of accident damage, otherwise in great shape. 10,800 original miles. Power enough for me, cleaned choke and it idles great, carbs balanced, no problem. Transmission is perking along fine after ATF installed in it. Great to be alive and driving a car like this, especially since I have not had to pay for it. The friend who sold it to me said to forget the money and just take care of the car, she didn't want the money but wanted a good home for the car and knew I would take care of it. She is moving to Washington state and wanted to leave it in good hands. Can you believe that? Still some good people in the world.
