What is this hole for?

Postby hat_man » 31 Mar 2018 00:16

Hello everyone from a new TR7 owner.

I haven't been able to do much with my project except take pictures but I have to ask......what in the heck is this hole stamped into the drivers floor pan for? I don't think I've ever seen anything like it on any vehicle?

I know most of you are rolling your eyes right about now and saying " Well that's for the ________ of course." This is a completely new venture for me. I'm reading as much as I can and looking for an owners manual to learn some more from, but I just am baffled by a 3" diameter hole stamped into the floor pan open to the elements.

I'm also thinking about starting a "blog" thread but for the moment it will have only pictures as work and finances will surely have a big impact on this little gems restoration. I have quite a few pictures and can add more as needed or requested. I'm sure I will be asking for much advice and direction as time goes by. I hope I don't become a pest.

Take care everyone.

Morning,

That is a drain hole ... very useful if you get water ingress from the screen or a leaky heater matrix.

Good luck with the project & remember, the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask!

Originally to let out the surplus liquid after the car body shell was dipped in preservative. Sadly I think they used wood preservative rather than a metal one on occasions!

You need to buy a plug as water will splash up, soak the carpet and cause more problems if the plug is not closed off and sealed (with care!).

The plugs in mine appear to be paint tin lids.

That's kind of what they looked like. Replacements can be bought from the specialists if not the regulars.
