Shipping charges

Postby nick » 21 Dec 2015 16:16

I just ordered US$45 worth of small parts to include a Sprint intake manifold gasket from Rimmer. The price for shipping to the west coast of the US is $6.75 using non-tracked air mail. From a conversations I have had with their customer service on another subject, it was mentioned that they have some sort of parts depot in the US. Perhaps some of these orders are being shipped from the US and not the UK. How else can they do it so cheap? I just ordered some very small parts from a supplier that is no more than 250 miles from me and it cost $8.75. Congrats to Rimmer for figuring out how to pull this off. :D

It is often cheaper to ship from UK to Canada than USA to Canada (especially using Royal Mail, the national postal service). Even cheaper than that is shipping from Hong Kong to Canada when using national postal rates. It depends on how much they want international business. I even got a neoprene cell phone cover from Hong Kong with free shipping for $1.68 Cdn.

It always puzzles me as to why shipping costs from the US to Oz are so much more expensive than from the UK to Oz.
Especially when I check the tracking of the shipments and find that the stuff from the UK generally comes via the US anyway.

Hell I paid about 4 times that much to get 8 wires average 6" long, with very small bayonet connectors for my remote control planes shipped from the US to Oz, & it took 3 weeks.

I also had a fairly large box, of about 4.5Kg shipped from Melbourne to Queensland. This took 10 days & cost $20.

You're doing very well.
