Postby rugbyref1 » 04 Sep 2015 15:30

Tony Lee - It is with sadness and with great regret to report that Tony Lee - Triumph Chief Design Engineer and directly involved in the TR7 Bullet project - passed away yesterday (3/9/15) at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully with his family there. Tony will be missed within the TRDC and Triumph circles. Our sincere condolences to his family.

An amazing man, l feel lucky to have met him last year at Gaydon. We chatted about my car, Tr7s in general and industrial relations in the 70s. Such a shame to have lost him, yet he lives on in his legacy.
My thoughts are with his family.

Hi,

Sad news indeed, Dave texted me last night to say, apparently it was mentioned on some un-sociable media called Facebook. Met Tony a few time's and always found a top bloke and totally fascinating to talk too.

My thoughts are with his friends and family at this sad time.

Tony's daughter is keeping me up to date. Currently Tony's funeral has a target date of 25th September but the Coventry backlog and the fact that the coroner still has to do some work means this could change. But the family would very much appreciate having some Triumphs in attendance to give ol' Dad a good send off because he'd have loved that.

I'll keep you all updated as news becomes available and hope that some TR Drivers Club members can make it on the day.

Cate has just let me know tentative preliminary arrangements as follows:

"I believe the funeral will be Friday 25/9 at 11:30am at our Lady of the Assumption on Tile Hill Lane. This will be followed by a short service at Canley Crematorium then refreshments and regaling of tales of A J Lee at a place still waiting to be confirmed but likely to be The Village Hotel on the old Standard Triumph grounds."

So let's get some Wedges there chaps and chapettes. If anything changes I'll get it up here and on FaceAche asap.

It touched me how grateful the family were of our presence,
And asked us all to drive behind the Hearse. Then after the crematorium asked, if those of us with empty seats could take family members to the hotel.
Not forgetting Christopher was asked to take a few family members for a blast up the road in the Huffaker TR8.
I've never seen so many smiling faces at a funeral. Good night Tony......
