Drive It Day 21st April Devon & Cornwall

Postby John Clancy » 04 Apr 2013 19:48

Sue and John Franklin have organized this with the support of all us local clubs. Looks like a fair turnout of wedges is expected with quite a few TR Drivers Club members coming along. Anyone else, please let me know and we'll arrange a sensible place to meet and all drive along together. I plan to film TR7s and TR8s for Bullet Reloaded so don't forget to comb your hair. Anyway, here's the latest from Sue and John Franklin...

Hi Folks

Cannot believe it is mid March already and DRIVE IT DAY is creeping up fast! Could we ask you please to forward this email to your own Club’s members so that we get as wide a coverage as possible.

We have now finalised the details of the day as follows and we are really looking forward to seeing as many of your members and Triumph driving friends as possible – we really want to break the 100 Triumph barrier this year.

Date Sunday 21 April
Venue The Big Sheep at Abbotsham near Bideford EX39 5AP
Aim to get there for between 11 am and 12

DRIVE IT DAY ARRANGEMENTS - Sunday 21 April is of course Drive it Day, when we are hoping to get 100 Triumphs on display. We will be joined by Triumphs from Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset and are looking forward to seeing the largest gathering of Triumph cars in this area for many years.

We are aiming to be at the Big Sheep, Abbotsham, near Bideford EX39 5AP from 11am onwards. The starting points for the Devon groups will be at the top end of Exeter Services car park and at the roundabout end of the old airfield up at Yelverton. Both groups will meet for 9.30 prompt please. Allan Prowse (White Vitesse) will be organising the Exeter run and Marc Treleaven (Valencia 13/60 or GT6) will be doing the same from Yelverton. We expect to be joined by others along the routes.
Cornwall arrangements via Mike Crewes - mikecrewes@standard-triumph.com Members of the TSSC, Club Triumph, Dolomite Register, TR Register and Stag Owners Club are convoying up to join in the event. We will be leaving The Hawkins Arms, Zelah (just off the A30 between Chiverton Roundabout and Carland Cross roundabout) at 10am sharp. We will then travel up the A39, Atlantic Highway (Wadebridge, Bude, etc).

If you and your members want to join any of these groups, please give us a ring on 01548 821348 or email on devon2005@tssc.org.uk. It would be really helpful to know if you are coming along and, if so, where you will meet up with us. Cars from North Devon of course will make their own way there, and John and I are expecting to be there for 11am to meet everyone.

Don’t forget it is FREE entry for driver and passenger, and there will be Triumph ale on offer. All drivers of Triumphs will be welcome It promises to be huge so remember to bring your cameras too. To tempt some partners perhaps, it is a stone’s throw from the Atlantic Shopping Village.

Looking forward to seeing you all
regards
Sue & John

So far four of us TR Drivers Club members are meeting up at 10am at the Who'd Have Thought It Inn in Yelverton. We will then drive in Convoy to the big Triumph only gathering at the Sheep Dip (or whatever it's called). Should be fun so please let me know if you fancy joining us. Yelverton is on Dartmoor so it should be an outstanding drive.

A few more Triumphs turned up later... One hundred and ten more in fact. Here's a little vid I took near the end.

There was a Drive It Day run starting at Aberdeen Beach today. Good turn out but only one other wedge. Ended up at Fyvie Castle (there was a whole herd of Stags!):

Nice one Steve!

That is Alan and Angela from the Bristol area leaving in 'his and hers' TRs.

We had a nice drive across Dartmoor to get to The Sheep Dip and then a very pleasant drive through Devon and into Cornwall afterwards. Good to see all the TR Drivers Club members today. That's the first time we've had a turnout like it in this part of the world and it raised quite a bit of attention.
