Paint Vs. VIN

Hello all,
Just wondering if you can help me out in determining the original color for my TR7. My father restored the car and while he was a bodyman, he wasn't much of an original-ist... I have done some searching throughout these forums and throughout the web but to no avail. As it was passed down to me, I want to determine what the original color of this car. I know that these are mostly identified by the VIN #, but mine doesn't seem to match up. The VIN # is TCT114094UCF. Could somebody please help me identify what the original paint color and code were? Thank you all.

The VIN itself won't contain the paint code, but the VIN plate should have spots for the paint and trim codes (three letter codes).

If you no longer have the original plate, you could also order a Heritage Certificate using the VIN, it should include the codes:

As said, the VIN itself does not tell you the paint colour but the plate carries the 3 letter paint & trim codes. If you have the plate post the codes on here & we can tell you what they mean.

UCF at the end of your VIN stands for U - North American Specification, C - exhaust control fitted, F - five speed manual gearbox.

Unless your father repainted every nook & cranny of the car then take a look under the carpets or some other hidden area, you can probably see the original colour there, would at least give you an idea of what it was.

From above site: - Also as Tony said a start colour is handly if the vin plate is missing.
If you are unsure as to where to find your Commission Number, or for later cars the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), look for the Vehicle Data Plate located on the front suspension turret on UK cars or on the inside edge of the Drivers door for USA and Rest of the World cars.

Thanks folks. It's in storage 5 hours away right now, but I will definitely check the plate next time I see it. As for checking under the carpeting, etc... It was a full frame-up restoration so every inch of the vehicle has been painted. This will definitely make it difficult to change back to the original color especially if the color is drastically different. Anyhow, I'll keep you posted.
