Van Dusen

Postby FI Spyder » 23 May 2012 14:07

Went to Van Dusen on the weekend. 651 cars present. I must say the quality of the cars just keeps getting higher. All the Spitfires were immaculate. The guy who won the farthest traveled was from Germany (by way of Chile)in a Land Rover. For the first time actually I took a walk around the gardens. After posting the pictures I'm embaressed to say I fotgot to photo the wedge line.[:I]

I came in 1st loser (or last as there was only two TR7's) although Dave (who drove in the winner for a friend as his auto 7 was up for repairs) said there was no way it was better than mine. Go figure. Only about 6 TR8's.

I would so love a Triumph 2000 DHC with a dicky seat. Can you imagine the grand kids in that?

Yes, one of those jclay. They really do it all for me, even if according to reports they are not the greatest thing dynamically.

Always had a bit of a thing for Herolds too. In late 59 I actually walked into the main TRiumph dealer in Sydney with the deposit in my hot little hand, to buy a Herald coupe. It didn't work out.

This was not long after they had first hit the market in Oz. Apparently Triumph had stuffed up the shipment of CKD units to the Oz assemblers, & there was going to be a delay of 4 months, before more coups would be available. What else is new with the UK motor industry of that time.

I walked a hundred yards down the road, & drove away with a new Simca Aronde.

Just as well too. Triumph continued to stuff things up so badly, that about 9 months later they had to reduce the price of the whole Herald range by 25% just to get rid of them. Their resale went through the floor.

It was to be 50 years before I bought a Triumph.

We have a large expat community on the west coast, especially in Victoria. It's not that unusual to see imports from UK with RH drive. (You'll note the barely visible steering wheel on the RH side).
