Misfire on left hand bend

Hi everyone, has anyone ever experienced this, when I go round a left hand bend (however slight) I get an engine misfire, I have tried many things to resolve this but still no real answer, i have tried a direct feed to the coil which improves it but doesn't cure it, any ideas any one? Its V8 conversion, new tank, pump, carbs rebuilt, new in line filters, new dizzy, coil, leads, as you can see I have tried loads of alternative solutions![?]

Sounds like fuel starvation. Were both floats OK and at the right level when the carbs were rebuilt, although I would have thought there would be enough fuel in the chamber anyway unless it was a very long bend?

Does it misfire if you're stationary but turning the steering to the left, or only whilst you're going along? If it does it when you're stationary maybe the steering mechanism is stagging on something.

Take a look at your motor mounts. If they are broken or weak, the engine could be moving excessively and causing the plug wires to chafe on something and ground out.
I had a car that had a broken motor mount and it caused the throttle linkage to bind and the engine wouldn't return to idle.

I had a similar thing on my 2liter while navigating a round about. I changed spark plugs and the problem is gone. It occurred because I would enter the round about in third and slow a bit and then put on throttle to come out the other side. So the combination of low RPM in 3rd with added throttle put a load on the a weak plug causing a misfire.

Does it do it if the fuel tank is full?

The 8 [fuel injected] does it on right handers, once the tank is below about 1/3Rd full.

I have been threatening to put a surge tank in the thing for years. Must be a pretty idle threat, as I'm always too busy doing something else, like going for a drive, with the tank more than half full of course.

Hi,

You said rebuilt carbs as in plural. Does that mean twin SU's? Maybe something to do with the floats / needle valves?

Is your steering manual or pas? I don't know what difference that would make but somebody else might.
