Withdrawal symptoms,----already.

Postby Hasbeen » 11 Dec 2010 03:13

If you read my bit in the TR8 section, you would have seen the 8 has gone to Sydney. [950Km away] with my son. It only went yesterday.

Today I did a run into town for a prescription for a sick neighbour. I took my 7, which does go very well, for a daily driver 7.

Coming home I got caught behind a 4WD Hilux, behind one of those old farm trucks, that have trouble climbing a hill. The truck was doing 65 to 80 Km up the highway, which was probably pushing the poor thing, but the nice new Hilux making no effort to pass, followed along too close to the truck, to allow me to pass him, without taking the truck as well.

There were some opportunities to take them both, but it would have been cut a bit fine with oncoming traffic, with the 7s acceleration. I would probably have frightened the oncoming driver.

That's OK, I had no real reason to hurry, but after about 16 Km, I was really wondering if I can survive without at least one car that goes like stink. In the 8, I would not have been stuck there very long at all.

You know, I think I saw an add for a Grinnall in Brisbane recently, or was that an S2000 Honda?

I feel for you mate. We're driving my car to Auckland tomorrow for a week of R&R. 8 hours of V8 goodness to look forward to. I'll be passing cars as often as the Mrs can stand - probably a bit more actually. The trip back will be a good news/bad news scenario. I'm leaving the wife in Auckland but as a result of a parts-for-a-favour deal I'll be hauling a trailer back. Still, there's nothing like a road trip in a sports car.

I've driven a S2000 & these modern 2 seaters leave very little room to stretch your legs unlike the nice wide wedge. It's like the GT6 all over again.

I run into that same situation all the time whenever im going anywhere with my dad and his car.
Hes got the buick V6 so he just pulls out and chirps the tires, meanwhile i'm stuck in an impromptu drag-race with an old lady in a subaru [:(]

Hi Hasbeen,

Salt, snow, sleet, salt, rain and more salt is keeping the V8 in the garage so I share your pain. My Golf Gti just doesn't have the torque for the overtaking that you're missing.

However, a dry salt free day is around the corner sometime soon and for the first winter in many years I will have a heater that works, so maybe the roof will be down as well. That'll make a change from wearing several layers. Not that your part of the world has those problems.

The V8 will feel all the sweeter when it returns.
