Engine ID

Postby mess » 29 Nov 2010 19:15

Hi,

I've just signed up to ask a quick question, Any idea what engine is in the attached pictures? I've been told that it's a sprint engine, but would like some clarification if possible

Tony

And if you don't want it ,there might be a person or 2 who just might take it off your hands if you twist hard enough[:)]

Funny you should mention that, i work in a scrapyard, this has come in and we're currently breaking it on ebay, what's the protocol on selling on this forum? do you have any limits? i.e need to be a member for so long? or need so many posts?

I did have someone intereted in the complete car, but they never got back to me. It does look like it could easily be returned to the road, so it is a shame really

Tony, I think we this forum aims to help all honest sellers and buyers. I hope you'll reference your ebay item listings here.

Is it a DHC of FHC? Could you provide more info please and advise if you are willing to sell to overseas buyers.

BTW, I've never seen the thermostat cover before. I imagine it makes it more difficult to fill the coolant system then the OEM versions.

Looks similar to the late TR7 stat cover without the fill/vent.

It is the later (should I say better?) coolant system, used from the 1980 models and onwards.

As for breaking this car for spares, if you count the cost (hours spent to dismantle it) it won't bring you much money.
In the end you'll probably be weighing it in.
So better to try and sell it as a whole car, might give you a better margin ...

Sadly the avarage TR7 isn't a gold mine for scrappies [:p]

What a crying shame! Can't believe someone would just be throwing that away in the trash! I'd love to be able to find one of those over here in the states.
I hope someone gives it a good home.
Keep the car whole!

The yard i do a bit of work at isn't technically a 'breakers yard' The bloke who owns it used to just treat any car that came in as scrap weight, i got sick of seeing decent cars, that would break for spares, just being thrown round the yard with the grab!! Saw a few old jags, dolomites, toledos, mg's etc go on the pile, as well as newer cars, so i told him to clear a section of the yard and i'd sell a few parts for him for a commission. This TR7 came in and he just paid scrap value for it, it starts, drives, doesn't look too bad. I'll pop some more pictures up when i get home

reminds me of a '76 tr7 in a local pull-a-part yard.body in real good shape, no motor, drive train intact. why, I asked? it's listed as a '79 spitfire, comm.ACL18469U, door i.d. plate FM97362U-? I suspect funny numbers as partial reason somebody bailed out on this one. the parts yard (breakers) sends to the crusher after a set period of time- I told attendant they should waiver that for this one; don't know if it's still with us- gotta check that out! I'll give them scrap value plus just to save it, but haven't had time to pursue it yet...hope it's still there![:0] I did rescue both tail-lights (complete), starter, alternator, ext, manifold, coolant bottle, lumenition distributor &ignition unit. (all stashed in the boot for ease of picking!)[}:)]
