Which way up?

Postby cozyheatdave » 20 Nov 2010 13:04

I'm working on my gas tank and inserting the sending unit.
I don't know which way to put it.

Any help?

Ok,

In the first photo, you have it upside down. That little tab sticking out is both the rest for the float lever and the "Low Fuel" contact. Also notice that there is a notch in the hole in the tank. There is a corresponding tab on the mounting plate.

Place the O ring over the taps on the mounting plate, point the float to the left side, then insert. Aline the tabs with the notches and press in. Insert the locking ring and tighten it down.

PS, before you install the sender, hook up the wires to the unit and turn on the power. Now check your gauge, with the float arm rest at the bottom and the lever setting on it, your gauge should read "E". If it doesn't gently bend the rest down a small amount until it does go to "E". You can lift the arm up all the way and see it the gauge foes to "F". If it does not, then I would replace the gauge.

WOW - THANKS!
I feel foolish that I didn't go far enough to notice the tab.
But glad I asked anyway... I'll make sure the gauge is good.

Thanks so much for the help.
