Diagnosing Turn Signals

Postby jbsjim » 24 Sep 2010 17:16

I'm trying to figure out why my turn signals don't work. Realistically it is the last big hurdle remaining before I can get the car back on the road. I have tried a replacement turn signal flasher with no effect. The hazard flasher will make all of the turn signal lights blink so that isn't the issue. I believe there should be power from the hazrad flasher to the column stalk/switch. Is this power always on when the ignition is on? If I find power at the hazard switch (to the stalk/switch) then the problem is either a break in wiring to the stalk/switch or a bad stalk/switch. Does that sound right? Where can I check for power on the stalk/switch?
Thanks! Jim

There should be all the connectors under the column

The turn signals have their on flasher. It is up under the dash next to the fender wall on the driver's side of the car. It does have a hook to mount it some where, but mine have always been loose and hanging.

jclay,
As I read the wiring diagram power runs through the hazard switch before it gets to the turn signal switch on the column. The turn signal flasher makes the lights go on and off after it leaves the turn signal switch.

Yes, Jim,

The power for the turn signals is a pass through from the Hazard switch.
