Was going to the local Piston Ring classic car show and swap meet on Sunday when two of my hood cover fasteners finally gave up. A pice of the inner (female) plastic ring broke off and as a result they would not stay snapped onto the body studs. Solution - raided the missus' sewing cupboard and found two steel studs in a box marked "anorak" (appropriate !). Using 'gentle' pressure from two screwdrivers I separated the plastic dome from the broken fastener and, using the fixing tool from the sewing cupboard I married the new steel fastener to the old plastic dome. Looks great from the outside (completely original) and the new steel fastener holds ont he bidy stud and looks like it will last for another 30 years.
Still standing !
