Wiring connector

Postby Jim_Blackwood » 12 Aug 2010 02:26

Where can I get connector bodies for the wiring harness? Specifically, the main one for the engine harness where it goes through the firewall and plugs into the dashboard harness under the glove box. This is a 1980 TR7 and it is a 7 pin connector, 2 rows of 3 and the last one on top like an arrow head. The connector body is broken and it won't hold the contacts in place long enough to make contact.

the connector pins(male/female) theoretically should have a tight enough fit to each other to stay put. the plug bodies with their interlocking shells just provide fail-safe & secure mating. you may need to tighten up the female lugs (alright, shaddup, you guys![:p]) by squeezing them carefully to close up slightly. the pins can usually be extracted by depressing the tiny barb on the connector that retains it in the shell. you'll need a TINY probe to do this. I've had to do this a number of times over the years on various vehicles & other equipment to either tighten a connector, or for a re-wire. it's a pain in the ass, but beats crimp-lug or wire-nut butchery[:D]
