Brake/clutch fluid capacities

I'm going to renew the fluid in my brakes & clutch, it's using silicone at the moment so I'm going to replace it with the same. How many litres will I need to do both jobs? At £30/litre I don't want to buy more than I need!

I have found that brake resevoirs differ on the cars I have had. Some have a high capacity and some a low capacity resevoir, different brands I think but there is a visable difference.

Andy, just from memory, I'm pretty sure the last time I changed the
fluid in the brakes, I used less than a litre of fluid.

That was on the standard 7 brake system, it was a bit more than a
litre on the 8, with 4 pot calipers on the front.

The clutch doesn't take much at all.

I used a bit over a litre to completely fill both Brakes and clutch with the large Brake resevoir

Not sure what the recommended renewal period is for silicon fluid as it is not hydroscopic like standard fluid, but the clutch does not need regular fluid replacement even with regular fluid as it does not have to take heat. Brakes need regular fluid change to prevent the absorbed water boiling, forming steam/gas which is compressible and so losing braking effect (fade).

Just bear in mind that whatever fluid you use, flushing the hydraulics on a regular basis is essential to get rid of moisture and rubber particles from the seals.
