GM Ecotec Engine Swap

Does anyone know if there has been an Ecotec engine swap done into a TR7. I like the idea of having more power in my car and I am just thinking about the different possibilities, including a Rover V8 or a GM LS1.

For off the shelf bolt in and little fabrication the way to go is the Rover V8. Hey it was done by the factory!

Although I also prefer to see a Rover V8 used I think you need to enjoy the heritage value of the motor for it to be a better choice for you. From what I've read of conversions using modern motors you will end up with a more usuable car for less hassle & less ongoing maintenance. The thing to remember is that the more power you put into a TR7 the faster they fall apart. [B)]

don't think it's ever been done, but many a folk here at the GM shop I work for think it's a great idea (been more than a few lunch/bench sessions involving my car and a solstice engine swap....especially the turbo one [;)])
((btw none of these convos were started by me....I'd go more along the more traditional rover engine myself))

Don't forget the possibility of the Buick V-6. Ron (Orange Rag) did that and I believe he said it was 235hp. Engine sits back nicely, lots of room to put in and take out as it's only three cylinders long. It's a pretty small on the outside and pretty light and moves the weight distribution to the rear for better handling. I was talking to him last Sunday and he said he turns 1500 rpm at 60mph with his T5 transmission and 3.45 rear diff. He's thinking of putting his son's 3.90 diff in and giving his 3.45 to his son so he's not idling when going down the highway at the speed limit (it's actually 55 on the island). Not that he needs more HP at the rear wheels. And the best part is the engines/trannys are cheap and you can buy the kit with everything to bolt it in. He's since put on a high rise manifold with snorkel and K&N filter.

I love the 3.8 Buick. I had one in my 78 Sunbird and my 89 Reatta. I would drool for it in my 7. It's a ratty looking beast, but it would scream!

but no matter how nice a 3.8 can be built (even a GN breathed on one...) it will never have the orgasmic sound of even the smallest v8 [8]

A Sprint engine on DCOE Webers @ 7000 rpm comes pretty close, if not better [8D]
