Wiring question

Postby pupinabox » 23 Jun 2010 20:56

I am doing some pretty major re-wiring. There is a big bunch of wires that exit the interior just above the fusebox and next to the wiper motor. They immediatly disapear into the right fender and I assume travel up to the front of the car near the headlights. My question is, is there any way to get to these wires for removal? There is a plate bolted to the underside of the strut towers, does this provide access? I would like to remove the whole bundle and then refit. Is it possible?[:0]

The only way to get to that part of the loom is to remove it completely. Either that or take the wing off...[:o)]

Once it goes into the bodywork it travels along the top of the wheelarch and off to the first headlight assembly, then runs underneath the front panel to the second assembly.

On my ('76, RHD) car, the loom is all one piece, right the way to the fusebox.

Removing it isn't actually that hard, I had mine out in about five minutes. Just remove all the connectors at the front and feed it through. I've not had to refit it yet though, so you're on your own with that!

One tip I'd suggest is to thread some string or wire to the end of the loom as you pull it through, then leave it in place so you can use it to thread back through when you're refitting it.[;)]
