i friend of mine from wolverhampton has just called me on behalf of his md who has a tr6 rusting !!in their yard they are a big engineering company he has told me that the boss wants it gone asap, he tells me the body is pretty rusty but everthings there its had a tarpaulin over it for years i will be looking at it in the morning. i have always fancied one as a project. question is what do i offer him. Im thinking £400 - £500 assuming chassis is ok and all the bits are there. i dont want to mess around to much and miss an opportunity. strike while the irons hot. If its better than described and he wants more than a grand i will let you know with details and pictures.[:D]

I have always loved the TR6. I had a '69 and a '71. The '71 had wire wheels, overdrive, factory hardtop and a roll bar. I miss the throaty rumble of the in-line 6. If it is all there £500 could be a steal. Body panels are readily available and so are frames if necessary. I guess it depends on how much rust you really have. I sold my '71 15 years ago and it had been sitting for 6 years and was missing all of the sheet metal from the doors forward. I got $1500 for it. If I had parted it out I could have gotten more, the hard top alone was worth at least $500. The 6 is easier to work on in a lot of ways than the wedges. Good luck.

As Jim notes, they are pretty straightforward to work on and even replacement frames are available. If the body is that far gone, you might need a frame. It sounds like more of a project than I would want to undertake, but more power to you. You might want to look at the 6-Pack forum, http://www.6-pack.org/sixpack//index.php

Well, if you get the data plate and the title for near free, you can just about build one from scratch!

Not in the UK you can't, it has to be proven that there are 6 various points of originality on the car otherwise you will be subject to a VOSA test and be wacked on an <s>X plate</s> Q plate [;)] just like any other kit car.

I thought you could fit a repro frame, a Heritage TR6 body and the original running gear - and you were home free in the UK? Isn't that what they do to the MGB?

You mean a q plate, x is 1981! Heritage body and a NEW chassis should be ok for keeping the plate but it may still need an inspection to verify all this and keep the DVLA happy.

Most TR6's that need a complete restoration that I have seen on ebay are 5K plus, for £500 you could be in big profit just selling it on with out even getting dirty.

i cant believe he drove a hard bargain ive had it and he is arranging delivery for me next tuesday £150.......

Yes £150 [:)]

again £150[:D][:)][:D][:)][:D]

he is a genuine car guy he would rather it go to enthusiast rather than scrapman. I got feeling he was going to give it me but that would have been rude especially as he is going to deliver. any way its a 1969 / 70 on a J plate engine bay looks yellow body is red started strip down 10 years ago chassis is good everthings there interior etc engine stored inside having been rebuilt, body is very rough exept bonnet and bumpers very good condition having been stored properly indoors even has a hard top in his factory somewhere and the wheel he cant remember whether there original or not but it does have wheels. it spent first year after strip down without a cover on it hence poor condition. the guy is really wanting a genuine grinnal. i took couple of pictures looks like a project for the next few years.

The best deals come to you. (witness my "largely" rust free (notice my qualifier[:)]) 30,000 mile Yellow TCT for $100. There was a TR6 for sale by club member for $3,000 (1,900 BP) that needed wheel arch lips replaced. (Looked good in pictures.)

Looks like a project that will involve some skills. Good thing you have the other TR to drive.[8D]

That's about as near free as I've seen. Have fun, and do check out the 6-Pack forum.
