When the TR7's were new what would the underside finish be like, body colour ? black stoneguard ? stoneguard with splashes of overspray ? factory primer colour ?

I am getting close to putting something on the underside of my car, it has been blasted, etched and had some oxide put on for now, been removing the remains of the old hardened seam sealer to put new on.

Will be using modern sprayable sealer under the arches and in the vulnerable areas, just a thin coat.

Any pics of 'new' undersides ?

My underside (above gas tank had some coating of sorts). I added some waxoil.

The rest of the car has regular undercoating probably applied after the fact.

I'm considering applying Lizard Skin on Yellow TCT which can be applied by user (spray on about thickness of credit card) which is a sound deadening and another coat possibly (ceramic) as heat shield.

Can be applied on inside as well for double the effect.

This was a TR8 Coupe body painted and sealed in November 1978 and final assembly in August 1979.

The problem with that type of under coating alone is it is known to crack with age, traps water, then rusts underneath it. That's happened in a few places to Yellow TCT but believe it's just surface rust. I won't know for sure until I get it up on rotisserie and scrape off the undercoating

I think an antichip coating like POR-15 or POR-15 Chassis Black (over paint) then a covering like Lizard Skin or spray on truck bed coatings with the rubbery coating left for the wheel wells and under sills where it will take the brunt of stones kicked up by tires.

I used an anti stone chip coating from 3M ...

Which was sprayed with a Uni colour green that more or less matches Triton green ...

Most coatings require a primer or paint base. I wouldn't trust just a primer as it's porous (not sure about epoxy primer).
