There is a company in Canada called Strongarm that makes these items. One of the warehouses I call on for my job has a bunch of old boot struts. If you give me the size you are looking for I can search there old stock..

Ha! First post. Finally found something useful to contribute!

I found replacements at McMaster Carr that fit and worked correctly. I ordered two struts with threaded ends, and stainless eyelet ends to attach them. They are identical to the old struts, bolted right up, and work perfectly. The part numbers were 9416K304 for the struts and 9424K14 for the eyelets. The eyelets were 7.45 each and the struts were 8.61 each. The struts were listed on my order as - Gas Spring with Threaded Ends 70 Force, 5.90" Extended Length, 2.36" Stroke

Hope that helps - No affiliation with them, just found some that work really well.

Originally it was spot welded in place. Three spots istr...
If you're rebuilding a shell - plug weld it in place.
If you are (like me) 'after paint' - rivets or screws/nuts. (I'm aiming for countersunk screws and nuts myself.)

That's good to know. I have new ones purchased from Rimmer several years ago. I'm going to print out those #s & stick it in the shop manual just in case.

The worst rust I have seen on a 7, is on the boot prop on my spares
car.

It is still attached to the boot lid, but is hanging down from there,
with a rusty bit of the rain gutter still welded to its bracket. At
the rain gutter is a large rust hole, so do not take this job
lightly. The rain gutter is still wet, long after most of the car is
dry, & the action of the prop, continually flexes the gutter,
cracking the paint, in the area.

Good point, about the flexing. I'll have to start thinking.....

I've already logged into McMaster.com and bookmarked these parts! I'll bury them in my next order.

What "force" did you get? 15-80 pounds are available.

Thanks for the great info!!!

Tim,

They are 70 lb force struts. They come threaded with no ends, and I purchased two of the stainless steel ends for each strut. They are a bit high for four of the ends, but I picked those based on the length of the ends combined with the struts, and the size of the eyelet. They slipped in without issues using the original bolts.

I'll see if I can get a picture of them installed for you tomorrow during the day, and get it posted.

Good find, Dave!

I use McMaster almost daily for my "day work", but for some odd reason, I rarely think of it for my car work [:I]. This is definitely a case where it work very well!

But what is more, I want to design a gas cylinder application for the hood (bonnet) and this should give me a lot more choices than what I was going to do (sort through a bunch of other cars gas struts).
