Wayne,
Like you I have replaced everything i could possibly think of to try and resolve my wobble problem.
I happened to drop in with the car to Robsport the other week (keep finding bits to buy) and whilst chatting in the car park it was suggested that a check on the steering column universal joints should be made - slight play on the middle joint - changed it - wow Im happy to drive again.

Hi,
More than often wheel balance issues can be 'driven out off' if it happens at 50mph does it get worse the faster you go or disappear [?]
I think Ian has a good point have you checked those UJ's [?]
The SD1 suffered from a similar vibration,this was caused by 'very slight torque relaxing' ( A BL term if i have ever heard one [;)] ) of the front subframe securing bolts, worth a torque check[?]

Crikey Beans, I couldnt tell you what Castor/Camber angles im running apart from to say that Ive done nothing to change the orientation of the struts apart from the fitting of the anti-dive kit which again made no difference. The wheels seem to have good postitoning, slightly in at the top and 0-1.6mm toe if my memory serves me rightly.

The subframe bolts I will check, so will stick that on the list.
I'll pick up a UJ link at Stoneleigh or in my next S and S order definately worth a try, theres no discernible play but doubtless worth renewing.

The wobble only occurs at the 50-55mph band, you can accelarate out of it or slow out of it just like a balancing or tracking problem. The car is beautifully stable at 120MPH !!! [}:)]

Fitting the anti dive kit will lessen the castor angle slightly.
Biggest problem however will be the roll bar not being centered properly. Giving different castor angels left to right.
Should usually give handling differences between LH and RH corners.
But all small things add up in the end.

As I stated in another thread make sure everything is in good condition (no free play),especially if you'r doing 120 mph frequently [;)]

I would try swapping the wheels about - front to rear and vice versa. Pretty sure it's just a slight imbalance problem.
Stevie_a - yes on full lock my car scrubs and jumps on the tyres - it's just because Triumph wanted to claim their 'famous' tight turning circle and the wheel geometry is not absolutely correct on full lock. I just try to avoid full lock situations !

Hi,
In a rare moment of a good memory [;)] ,i have remenbered a car which had similar balance problems that turned out to a locking wheel nuts that were alot different to standard ie. larger and heavyer thus causing an inbalance.We had balanced the wheels many times off the car and i eventualy dug out of a store room our Hoffman balancer that balanced on the car,done this and found that by fitting 4 standard nuts the problem dissappeared!!
Can you 'borrow' aset of wheels to try to make sure that is where the problem lies [?]
Is this vibration felt through the steering wheel or body of the car [?],rear wheels out of balance is normaly felt through the body.

I wish I could swap they wheels round but the back ones just wont fit on the front due to the offset. They clip the front valance [V]

However, funny you should mention wheel nuts actually. I have an old style locking set where one of the nuts is really tall and closed ended and the others are all normal wheel nuts. I ve been eyeing up a nice chrome set especially suited to compomotives that are all the same size and shape with the TR7 M12 x1.5 thread pitch. Thats definately worth a try combined with an on-car balance up.

I dont suppose any chain tyre/wheel places do on car balancing do they?

This is great, I ve got a few things to try now.

Hi Wayne,
A lot of on car balancing died out due to,
It takes longer to do,
Front wheel drive cars dont like the wheels spinning up fast with CV jionts at funny angles plus normaly put ABS fault into ECU memory's if ign on!
To be honest, used to scare the cr4p out of me as an apprentice with this wheel spinning at 40+mph inched from me,you sat on a machine which drove the wheel up to speed then froze it using a strobe light from a sensor mounted as near as poss to the hub, if for some reason a weight was'nt on properly then it left the wheel like a bl88dy bullet and everyone ducked!!
