Had a chat to one of the TRiumph club members yesterday, & he highly recommended a panel shop in my local town, Beaudesert, as a very good bloke with "special" cars.

Took the car to the bloke, he had a good look, & found a couple of chips of paint off the panel in front of the boot/trunk lid, & the other side fender, which were done by the boot lid hitting them when it was shoved forward by the skip. He reckons I'll get the whole back half done on insurance.

He's putting in a quote to the insurance company, & will then quote me for a full job on the rest of the car.

I was impressed with his thoroughness, he checked the exhaust system to see if had been bent at all before I asked, & I am feeling much happier now.

He will get everything, including the bumper cover, before starting, then wants the car for a month. He even found some black duct tape the right colour to tape up the damaged bumper cover, so the car looks normal from about 10 feet.

Sorry Mildred, I forgot to mention your being right in the money with that rusty neck statement.

It's only a couple of years ago that I would have been turned around, looking out the back window, & it would never have happened.

No job for you. You are required to park the vehicle as if nothing happened, then wait untill the boss finds the damage. When quizzed about it look straight in my eye and deny any knowledge of the damage.

Glad to hear it might work out well.

Cheers Troy

Well it took a few more days, but I have my quote for painting the 7. The insurance claim will paint both rear fenders, & the boot/trunk lid, & doesn't include engine bay or boot/trunk interior, but is bare metal for all external areas.

It is for original colour in 2 pack, & comes in at A$2340, which includes fixing a couple of small dings. I reckon that is a pretty good price if it is up to the standard of the cars in his shop when I was there.

He reckons he will have the car for a month. That will be the quickest I've ever had a job done, if he actually Keeps to that.

We are lucky in Oz to have an insurance company like Shannons. They specialise in "special" & classic cars, & are good to deal with, if not exactly cheap.

Got a call from them about 6.30PM last night giving approval for me to go ahead with my chosen repairer.

Today he told me he has all the bits required ordered, & they should arrive next week. He'll start the car the next week.

I had better have a couple of good runs in her before she goes in, so I don't miss her too much while she's gone.

I dropped the car off at the body shop today.

I have been really enjoying the car again, since the air/con went in, & will really miss it for the month they want it for.

I had a good look at the bosses own 4X4 wagon, which is beautifully painted. If the 7 is half as good I'll have no complaints.

Good luck with getting through these troubled times without a TR7 [:D]
Hopefully he does a proper job on the car.

I visited the car on Friday. After a slow start they have really got going. The whole thing has been painted, however it is in a clean part of the shop, for reassembly, which was a bit dark at the time. It looks great right now.

The bonnet/hood is was in the spray booth, sanded ready to be repainted, as a bit of it was not great the first time.

They expect to have it ready by Tuesday or Wednesday, this week.

I won't know myself, with a newly shiny 7.

Unfortunately I found a deep chip on the front of the S2000 yesterday, right in the centre of the front panel. I really hate these plastic panels out here in the sticks. A lot of rocks are thrown up by trucks out here. A rock that would leave a very minor mark on the paint on a steel bonnet will gouge a deep chunk out of a plastic one, particularly at highway speeds.

Picked up the 7 this afternoon.

I have not gone over it with a fine tooth comb, but a quick look over before coming home it looked really beautiful. All gaps are good, & this is a better paint job than the first one over 10 years ago.

They must have lubricated everything very well. On just a small angle on the side of the road, the door is swinging shut, rather than staying open.

They had the car for a month, & it is so nice to be back in her. After such a period with out her, I am always a little surprised at how nice she is to drive, & how well she goes.

Too dark to check everything when I got home, so it will have to be tomorrow for a thorough going over.

[:D] I can't stop smiling. [;)]

OK, so let's recap how this works. Hang out around the corner of a building to keep an eye on the woman 'till you see her move something to another location. Back into that thing doing maximum effect with as little damage as possible. Harangue her with "Dang woman, why didn't you tell me you moved that over there. Now I'll have to get it painted so it doesn't start rusting." Polish newly painted shiny new car. Job done.[:p]

Or, from a woman's point of view, she intentionally put it there knowing he would back into it thereby giving him something to fuss over and keep him out of her hair for awhile, and give her some more nagging ammunition to lay into him with.

When it comes to conspiracies and double dealing, you boys need to get up awfully early in the morning to keep up with us around here.

Gee, I may be the oldest on here, [xx(] but I see I've got a long way to go to get as smart & worldly wise as some of you. [}:)]
