The NA spec cars had the same useless (no longer needed) holes as your cars did .....
Both my 78 and 82 had the same cut-out, yet neither had/required the airducts going through them..... though I have always thought it might be a good thing to add, as it would direct cooler outside air into the carbs, instead of simply breathing in the hot air from the engine compartment????
