Why do all of you replace springs? Do your springs waste away due to rust, or don't you have spring works? We have spring works everywhere, quite a few in large cities.

These people will re temper your old springs to as new spring rate, & reset them higher, or lower to your choice.

I can take a car, [or truck ETC.] to our local spring maker, tell them how much higher or lower I want it to sit, & pick it up 5 hours later set to what I ordered.

They will do the same, supplying springs at any percentage stiffer I request.

Jim,
The front is a bit higher than the back. It was 3 inches or more lower than stock in front. I really wanted it at about 1 1/2". I don't what the wheel center to arch is supposed to be in back, but it seems fine. I decided not to muck with the rear springs until I get the front sorted. Of course, it will probably be Labor Day before I get back to Oregon. I believe the old springs were uprated; it's no harsher now. It still seems to ride and handle well.

Hasbeen,
I replaced my springs because they were collapsed. (Collapsed spring on the left, new "1 inch lower" spring on right.) And because I live in Anchorage and my TR8 lives in Portland, it was easier to just swap springs while I was there. If I take the old springs out to retemper them, I don't have any other transportation in Portland. Next step might be to try the TriumphTune springs or take the old springs to Benz Spring.

Don,

According to one source I googled, Triumph Tune is now part of Moss Europe. All I find on their website is standard springs (and Triumph Tune camshafts.) Hopefully someone will know?

Looked there to Ken, 10 years ago I bought a mess of TT stuff from them for my 6. They use to have a performance section for each vehicle. Must have changed that.

I think I remember that they were discontinuing Triumph Tune stuff as stock was sold off. Worth a phone call or email to see if they have uprated springs in stock.

I tried here in Ottawa Canada a couple of years ago to find a spring shop that could re set coils but found only a couple of shops that did any spring work at all and mostly only for trucks and trailers. They would have had no problems for leaf spring packs but no one would touch coils. Seems that that is an art that does not exist, here anyway.

I find it interesting how similar & yet how different our car scenes & cultures really are.

It is changing, but I think we in Oz are still more likely to fix/repair a component where possible.

It could be that it comes from having shortages of most things in Oz for a long time after WW11. I think it makes things easier for us, due to having many older tradesmen, with the old abilities.

I wonder how much longer it will apply.

Hi,

My Triumphtune rears are TT4512 and the fronts are TT4802. The last time I phoned Moss Europe it was after the Triumphtune owner had had a stroke (IIRC) and was incapacitated. It seemed that all the supplier information was with him and so replacement stock of these springs will probably never happen. These are the springs that never fall out even though they are shorter and uprated - they have a very low initial rate that takes up the 'slack'.

Mike.

Mike, That was the last time I bought stuff too. I had problems with my TT headers and exhaust I had just purchased for my TR6 and was not getting any replies from him.
Put a call into Moss and they notified me that he had recently had a stroke.
For the life of me I can't remember his name.
And that was about 3 computers ago so no trace of any correspondence

Anybody have any experience with springs from Rimmers or S&S? These S&S front suspension legs with adjustable spring seats might be the ticket for getting the "right" height:

V8 Suspension continued
Part Number Description New Recon S/Hand Ex Surchg
SAS71943 LH Leg Adjustable Spring Seat £95.00 - - £50.00
SAS71944 RH Leg Adjustable Spring Seat £95.00 - - £50.00
