Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Carburator mounts

Postby jclay (RIP 2018) » 08 Apr 2008 14:28

About a year ago, Rblackadar put up a post on metal carburator mounts. With his help I tracked down Tony Rhodes who makes them and got a set for my car. Since then I have recommended these to several people, especially those who have the Weber downdraft conversions. I would recommend that you NOT install the lock washers on the three bolts holding the mount to the manifold, as it does not allow enough clearance.

If you are interested in these mounts, here is the information that Tony Rhodes gave to me.

Here is Tony's email address:
<spamiam@comcast.net>

Tony wrote me:
"I do have the kits available. The kit with gaskets for the SU carbs will work with the
Pierce adapters.

I used to have the Weber 32/36DGEV carbs, and they also ripped my rubber spacers apart.
A while back I made a strut to support the carbs on the engine side of the engine mount.
That worked OK.

The cost of the adapters including shipping to the continental US and insurance is
$109.00

You can make a paypal transaction to my account (same as my email, spamiam@comcast.net).

Include your shipping address in the transaction, and also shoot off a reply to this email with your address and I will get everything ready to go. It probably will ship tomorrow. It will go Priority Mail.

-Tony Rhodes"

Have fun, drive fast & safe, be kewl,

Hey they sound really useful, Jclay.

By chance I found this website a while ago:

Is this the same guy? The mounts look very nicely made.

I'm still thinking of getting a set of these. If I do, I think I'll go down to Home Depot or Lowes and get that Vinyl/ rubber dip they sell. This is the same material you dip your tool handles into to get that rubber grip. Maybe I'll coat the sides of the mounts and see how they hold up.

No other car that I know of has rubber mounts for the SUs. Why did Triumph do it - seems like an unecessary trouble spot!
