I finally spent an hour on the TR7 today.

I got down into the service pit and replaced the shifter remote bushes and then back up top I replaced the steering bush.

Tonight or tomorrow I'll replaced the back half of the exhaust while it's parked over the pit.

I have a very stock injected motor. While I'm under there, if I replace the center muffler with a section of straight pipe, will is sound terrible? Would it help my performance?

On a side note, the new hose has a nice big workshop out back where I do my morSpeed work. But, it has a service pit that I used for the first time today. It's not real deep, be it's just the right height to sit on a 5-gallon bucket and do the work I did today. I'd like to say that I can't imagine doing the work I did today lying on the ground...YUCK!

I love the service pit and hope to never be without one (or a lift)!!!

Do you still have the catalytic converter? Replace that with the early two branch down pipe.

Replacing the resonator will result in a significantly louder exhaust (so I've heard from different sources.) Performance increase would be negligible. If your car isn't tested for pollution replace converter as jclay suggested. I had contacted K&N about the possibility of them making a air filter for us but they just sent an email back saying they make one for carbs saying they hope this helps. It doesn't.

If your looking for performance increase you can:
- increase compression from your 8 to 1 to the UK's 9.25 to 1. (I got a set of Hepolites off ebay for $188 delivered from UK, including taxes and duty.)
- Get a set of distributor weights and springs from UK. (You probably have Delco distributor.)
- Install a 4-2-1 stainless header w/ free flow resonator, exhaust. You'd have to get a bung welded in for your oxygen sensor. A friend did this (also changed to SU's and K&N's and said it readily rev's right up to 6 grand, changed the character of the engine.)
- install a slightly hotter cam.

They do a visual inspection in my state, so the converter has to stay. I guess I can keep it stock.

What's the second muffler for, the little one in the back?

I only have the rear muffler on my car with an Ansa tip and it sounds like a WW1 fighter plane inside. It sounds good outside but is almost unbearable inside. I plan on adding another muffler under the floor and also have a 50' roll of soundproofing that will be going in the passenger compartment.

The middle one (the resonator) resonates and the second one (the muffler) muffles.[:D]

Some people that have visual inspections and clogged converters knock the matrix out of them and reinstall them. Less back pressure although I don't know if any turbulance counteracts that but on the the whole it has to be better.
