chromed rocker cover

I've bought a chromed rocker cover to bling up my engine bay (although don't know when it will arrive due to the postal strike)[:(]
My question is: should I order a new rocker cover gasket (say from Rimmers)or should the old one be okay to re-use?

I would never recommend reusing an old gasket irrespective of which part it seals. The small amount that the gasket will cost far outweighs the probability of the cover leaking all over the engine. No sense having bling if it come with loads of oil leaks, kinda defeats the object.

Gary is right.Get a new cork seal from Robsport,S&S or Rimmers.Clean off old seal around cam housing.I apply some gasket sealer to rocker and stick new cork gasket to it.Then smear lightly around cork with clean grease before putting rocker back on head.The last cork seal i put on recently was a bit out of shape so i had to cut and trim it a bit.Oh,and while your at it,replace those old 'half moon' rubber seals at either end of cam housing with new ones.This should stop any annoying oil weeping down the sides of your engine.

I double what Paul says! When I had my head done,a few weeks later, I'm under the hood checking stuff out,and to my horror,I see oil coming out of those circles. I called the garage,and he's like "oh yeah,we'll take care of that" and they put new ones on...they should have just done it to begin with! Fine now though.

Don't forget the little seals and washers around the "tube nuts" that hold the cover on. I didn't have any, and I had oil dripping out all over the place. I successfully used gasket compound to seal them, but obviously the actual seals would be better. (Maybe this is the same thing Fiver was referring to?)

Way to go! Trouble is,now you gotta'purchase a bucket load 'o' high temperature paint to 'bling'up the manifolds,head,block,etc.etc.A Wedgemaniac's work is never ending!
