carb balancing

Hi all attempting to set and balance carbs on my 7.. i went looking on ebay for a balancer but refuse to spend that much on a bit of plastic.. arfter having a think. what about fitting a new distributor take off on the right hand carb ??, you can cap it off when not used.. but you can then buy twin gagues used for a motorcycle tuning.. you can leave them connected while tuning without having to keep changing between the two carbs like the over priced plastic balancer.. any thorghts on the idea would be great ???

Best spending the money ,as i did ,once you do so you will possibly
balance the carbs every 2 to 3 weeks as i do ,as you tinker with the engine
you will find it a lot easier ,with the right too lso don't be a missery guts
and spend the 35 quid on a Dellorto Weber genuine synchrometer carb. balancer
you will find this on eBay ,so splash out

Gunsons Carbalancer, half the price and it is plastic but it works.

I have always found the length of plastic hose, one end in the ear, & the other at the front of the carb is the best balancing tool yet built.

Set more than a few lap records with the Morgan +4, [Triumph TR3A engine, with SUs], including a couple around Bathurst, with the carbs balanced that way.

I use the Gunson one on mine. I found it a little fiddly at first, but that was probably me more than anything.

I also recently purchased the Dellorto Weber carbon balancer and find it a great and easy bit of kit to use. I did look at the Gunson one but found it to look and feel a bit too cheap for my liking. Just a personal point of view but I thought paying the little extra was worth it. I can see me using it a fair bit and for around 35 pounds it is not too bad.

I bought a Synchrometer SK1 many years ago, still works very well for both Webers and SU's.
Forgotten what it cost than, but definitely well worth the investment.
