Tr7, 5-speed axle -rear wheel bearings question/help

Postby Howard722 » 24 Aug 2018 16:52

I`m looking for the correct Timken OEM part number for these bearings.
And then I`m on the hunt for some bearings which I gather may be difficult!
-does anybody have a source?-just one would suffice at present.
Thanks in advance
Enjoy & regards

Rimmers list the Timken bearing as available with a 2 week lead time and twice the price as the non Timken in stock alternative.

I haven't seen a cross reference listing the GHB194 part no. against the Timken part no.

The guys on the Mini forum swear by fitting the original Timken wheel bearings over using any alternatives, which often have a much shorter working life.

Thanks for that info.- I have left an alert for when in stock.-not cheap though :(
Do we know any of the prime dimensions OD/ID/ outer race width/inner race width-could be the `two parts` have seperate OEM part nos. :?:

I have used SKF bearings for many years without any problems.
Should be easy to renumber using the original (dimension based) part number.
Other option is FAG ...

I agree, I`ve had good experience with SKF over the years.
The prime dimensions would be a good starting point so if somebody has a `bearing in hand` to measure.

Still asking the question about rear axle bearing dimensions!-or the British Timken part no. please ?
Hoping somebody has a bearing set and a vernier to help out with this quest?

I have just found the ones I took out a year or two back under the clutter on the bench. They are Timken (made in Australia) but I cannot read the numbers on the races. Best I can make out is U261L on the outer and U298 ???) on the inner but these may be way off. They did get a bit distorted in removal but I think the inner and outer races are still OK. According to my digital calliper the outer is OD, the inner 35mm ID and the 'thickness' of the inner race (the widest part of the bearing) is 20.5mm. Don't forget you will need the interference fit retaining ring as well.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that-you mentioned the outer race OD - but no actual diameter or width shown in your posting only the inner details ?
-hoping you can fill in the gaps cheers and thanks again.

It`s OK, I found the dimensions on-line from your part nos.-cheers
