TR7 1976 Red with Starsky & Hutch white stripe - LMP66P - Anyone know where it is?

Postby Starsky » 08 Mar 2017 20:21

Hi there,

Back in the 80s my brother's first car was a 1976 bright red TR7 with a white, Starsky & Hutch strip down the side! :)

It had Wolfrace wheels and red, tartan check seats. I'll be pretty amazed if it hasn't gone to the scrapyard but I'd love to know if it's still around.

The reg was LMP 66 P and, according to the DVLA vehicle check site, it was last taxed back in 1989. I'm not sure if this means the car has been scrapped as it doesn't have a SORN marker on it.

I'm trying to find out if it's still around as I'd like to buy it back for my brother's birthday.

Thanks!

If it had red tartan seats then that was a 1977 car. It's possible it's in storage somewhere but probably unlikely so I fear that's long since gone to the crusher. It would have had to have been very well stored over the past 28 years to be salvageable given the way rust can take hold of 1970s cars.

Perhaps the best suggestion is to find another 1977 red tartan car and re-paint it. However, given how much the TR7 in general is gaining momentum now you might be best advised not do to the Starsky & Hutch look on one. Get a Ford Gran Torino too and do it on that. Now that would be absolutely fabulous and you've have to bring both along to the club's national weekend at Gaydon in July.

Hi John,

Maybe I'm mis-remembering the tartan seats as it was definitely a 1976. I guess it could have had '77 seats popped in it before my brother bought it.

I will be absolutely amazed if it's still in one piece as it had a hole in the floor at one point - which made driving through puddles an interesting experience for the passenger! :)

I'm keeping my eyes out for a '76 red TR7 too - just in case. I'd only put on an easily removable vinyl stripe to initially surprise my brother.

Much as I'd like the idea of having a Gran Torino too, we just don't have the space.

Whatever we find we'll be sure to bring it along to Gaydon in July :)

Go on, us TR7 owners have thick skin.

Get out there and get a red fhc and get that white stripe on the side put those
Wolfrace wheels on make sure you get that red, tartan check seats.

I for one would love to see that .

I agree with Stevie. If you do manage to get a replica of your brother's original car together please, when you present it to him, try to get someone to video his reaction or at least get some photographs as it should be a wonderful occasion. We'll all wanna' see it!

A 1977 car or 1978 (but sadly much rarer) is going to be the way to go as you have red tartan or green tartan interiors in them. They also had the full width plastic wheel rims which is another difference between a 77 and 76 car. Not that many people tend to keep the original wheels on their cars so not so easy to pick out the different variations of TR7s these days.

Nothing wrong with white striping a TR7.
Infact whatever you do can be put back,
I would love to see it done.
