Can anyone give any suggestions here

I have purchased the items below in the picture to help protect my doors, when I finally get them to for correct. Can anyone tell me how I fit them?



I see where the corner protectors go, but there is no hole in the door to secure them to. So they just appear to sit there and when driving along, I could see them flying off. There is a hole in the protector, so it must for somewhere. I hope that I do not have to drill a hole in the door frame and use a rivet to fit them.

Also the door stops (on the edge of the picture) have bits (nipples) that fit in holes already in the door, but they do not stick. Would I be right in thinking that I will have to glue them to the door to make them stick?

The corner protectors were held in place by a rivet, so you probably have to drill out the old one and install a new one. The bumper glues in. Use a glue that stays flexible like trim cement NOT superglue.

Thanks for that, I thought that may be the case for the door stops.I have had a look and there is no previous hole, should there be one? I am wondering mow it it has been filled in by the previous owner of the door and I had it painted over. Hopefully, i should be able to find evidence of the hole from the back.

On my car, the corner protectors were held with a push-in clip, not an actual rivet. Even with held by the clip, they tend to get knocked off easily (of the corner). So I used a little trim adhesive to make them stay. If you do that, I don't think you really need the clip.

That would answer it then, as mine is a fhc. I didn't realise that when ordering them, but if I can stick them on with spray adhesive without drilling that will be my favoured option.

It's one of those plastic push pins. Good idea about trim adhesive to hold corner piece in place as it is very vulnerable (why it's there) but I would not rely on that alone.

Hi,

I have a 1980 FHC (UK car) and it has the door corner protectors.

Its a Premium limited edition, I don't know if that makes a difference. I need Chris Turner to come along and confirm or not. Or whether its a model year thing.

As far as I was aware the DHC had the protectors to stop injury from the sharp corner of the door (good old H&S?) whereas in the FHC the corner was protected by the window frame from easy contact and injury.

As above, mine have the plastic rivet but tended to catch and get turned back into the door edge so are now glued as well.
