Grease for the suspension bits

Postby UKPhilTR7 » 28 Oct 2014 20:07

I recently took of the front struts, springs and everything attached with the intention of cleaning it all down, put some new roller bearings on and then put it all back together, with the hope of having slightly lighter steering.

All came off OK and after painting some bits and buying new poly bump stops and top pan rubbers, I am ready to put it all back together. I know I have to grease the new roller bearings and which bits to take off. I was thinking though, will I need to or is it best to grease the Mounting Cone's (top and bottom) or should they go in, against the rubber dry? The bottom of the cones will be touching the new roller bearings as the big flat washer needs to come out, so the bottom will be greased.

I would think that it does not need to be, but I thought best check and get it right first time save having to take it all off again.

Last night I started to put them all together again. When I started to look at it all it seemed to make sense that I didnt put any grease on the sides of the cones, just on the bottom of them that met the new bearings. All back together and the wheels will be on ove the weekend when time allows, so I hope all is OK :)
