Potential TR7 owner.

Hi
I am potentially looking to purchase a TR7 and i am in the process of looking for a vehicle, unfortunately there appears to be nothing available close to me. This would not normally be a proble but being 6 foot 3 tall i really want to know will i fit in, it may be the case that the DHC is more suitable than the FHC. are there any tall owners that can help. I amd prepared to travel to buy but it will be a waste of time if i cannot fit inside the car. thanks

Hi,

[:D] WELCOME TO THE BEST TR7 / 8 FORUM IN THE WORLD EVER [8D]

I am six foot ( higher in heels [:I] [:D] ) and have no problem in either my FHC or DHC. There is loads more room than a MGB for example.

As Stevie say's hopefully someone near where you live [?]

Your profile says Spalding ( Lincs ) so for me the best is to search the ads & sit in a car.
I am 6ft 3" or 195cm & do fit into a DHC with the hood up.
Sight line with hood down is just below the windscreen so ok.
Recline the seat back & slid back allows a comfy position.

A bit of a limbo dance getting out due to the high sill height but ok.

Only way to be sure is to sit in one & the show season is coming up & most owners will allow you to sit in a car.

The trick to getting in a FHC TR7 is to insert your left or right foot, (as the case may be), DEEP into the footwell of the cockpit and ease your torso into the seat, at the same time leaning your head far over to keep from banging it against the door frame.

To egress the car, exit your left or right leg, (again as the case may be), to the ground, place your elbow against the rear door frame and lever yourself out and up in one motion keeping your head bent to the side to clear the door frame.

These are the calculated efforts for taller people and have been honed to perfection over the past three and a half decades. Note, the interior cabin was designed to accommodate folks up to about 6'6', once they are seated. It's the getting seated and getting out is the problem.

My first sports car was an Austin Healey Sprite. I learned the bottom in first, then swing the legs in entry style. Getting out is the reverse with one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the rear door frame.

thanks for the replies, it sounds like i should fit in. if it takes a bit of effort thats no problem. I am desperately looking for a car local to me but to date no luck, really want to have one in my garage in the next month ready for summer. Great forum by the way and i have my list ready printed off to inspect when i eventually find one.

Looking to spend about 3k give or take, not looking for a concours car, hopefully for that i should get some half decent. Dont want a big project.

It's not just the height thing - what I find best about our cars is the width!

Whilst not quite 6foot tall I have a more fuller figure! I have always found the cockpit of the wedge a really comfortable place to be in.

I aM 6' 4" and have no problem with my 81 dhc, I too had trouble finding a local TR7 and ended up driving from Hextable (Kent) to Hereford, well woth the trip got a glorious 81 TR7 DHC in very good nick for £2200. Got in her and drove it back no problem what so ever, 7 months later still running well.
