What colour would you choose for your Wedge if....

My spare time is still fully engaged with the restoration of a classic Mini into a circuit racer. However after this is done my 7V8 will need its tired bodywork refreshed.

22 years ago it underwent a colour change at Grinnal from original Persian Aqua to Jaguar Solent Blue. (I did my own V8 conversion afterwards with an S&S kit)

If you had the chance to respray your Wedge, what colour would you choose? If you prefer to keep to the original colour what have you got?

Since mine is a Spider it would be unforgivable to paint it anything other than Maraschino Black. However, as a kid I fell in love with a magazine ad that showed a white dhc with red plaid interior. I still love that look and I still have that magazine ad!

I always believe you should not change the color of a car from it's original. Because no matter how well it is done there will be something that gives it away;
- some spot in the door frame they didn't get with the new spray or a chip that shows brown under your fabulous new Inca yellow.

That said, your car has already been changed, so it's like a get out of jail free card; you can to do whatever you like.
I think these cars look best in the period appropriate bright colors; Inca Yellow, Pageant Blue, Triton Green, some of the reds or whites. There was nothing subtle about the design, so a not so subtle color fits them well.

As for the original question.
A DHC should have a bright and/or light metallic colour, suits it best i.m.o.

I like black cars (I think that's no secret). If I changed the colour of Yelloe TCT it would likely be a red with a touch of orange or brown similar to the coupe on one of the signatures on here.
I like Triton green too. However since Yellow TCT was Tumeric yellow and it is a rare colour as it only was available in 1979 I am planning on keeping it that colour.

Unless I change my mind. I agree with white in that you can almost always tell if there's a colour change but also agree with Beans that it can be done right, so you can't.

That red does it for me!! Although my 7 coupe is yellow, the 7 sprint dhc is red/orange, and the 8 coupe has had a colour change to a dark gun metal as well. I also tend to think that the convertibles in particular deserve a brighter colour.

I looked at a lot of red cars until I found a neighbor with the 2008 Saturn that didn't look orange in the sun and not too dark. I copied the VIN number from inside the windshield when it was parked on the street and phoned the local GM dealer, said I wanted touch up paint for my car and they gave me the codes.

Anything but Persian Aqua.....! It can look grey and shabby, particularly if the blue tartan has faded!

I going to have to paint my car in the next couple of year, so this is
kinda something I've be debating actually.


My 3 choices would include two with a complete re-spray ;

#3 - my favorite car colour "Dark Midnight Blue metallic "
(though I'd also be afraid it might be too dark for a small convertible.)

#2 - would be a medium charcoal metallic,

a colour that is not too dark that the bodyline's would be muted , but still dark enough for a complete change in overall look , and be nicely different in the sense that it's not a common hue for these cars .....yet still harks a tad at the original colour.

#1 - the most probable refinishing would be something close to the original silver, but with a more prominent "pearl metallic" finnish with maybe a small blueish metal flake.
