Upholstery kits

Postby Last TR » 17 Oct 2013 18:24

I've been looking at upholstery kits from TRF, VB, and Rimmer Bros. They all seem to offer about the same thing. Moss doesn't seem to have anything. Does anyone know if there is any difference between the 3, or do they come from the same supplier? I'm leaning towards the leather seats with tartan only in the door panels.
I think my interior is Golden Tan; how do I tell the difference between Tan and Biscuit?

It would surprise me if there was enough demand that there would be more than one actual supplier. The door panels I got from VB were made in England.

The all tan door panels I got from Rimmers for Yellow TCT were like the originals, on sale and cheap (I think $40/pair on a 70% off winter sale a number of years back). The black door panels I got from VB in 2007 for the Spider were on sale, not cheap ($200/pair), however they were much better quality with the upper third backed with aluminum panel to prevent warping from moisture and the rubber window seal was clipped on and replaceable (not an integral part). I don't know if they still use the same supplier.

Biscuit is lighter than tan. While the shade is noticeably different, couldn't tell which is which with out them side by side from just a picture.

Not a fan of plaid but fortunately Yellow TCT's interior is CAAA which doesn't use plaid (or tan knee pads and shifter boot which I think looks better in black).

Dear Ken

I have a tan Tr7 with the butterscotch plaid interior. Like you I am looking to improve or upgrade a ragged and worn interior. Last month I bought the biscuit seat kit from Victoria Britsh. It set me back 900 US on sale. I was disappointed at how little leather was included in the seats. Just the front surface of the back, and the top surface of the bottom, and the whole headrest is leather. The rest is a well matched (by color) vinyl. I bought new seat back and bottom foams, and rear lacing. Going to be a winter project in Edmonton. I got a carpet kit from a guy in New Jersey for about 170 US. A fellow club mate said it was better quality than one he paid close to $600 for. He said the Jersey carpet set has better floor pads. I will think about the other bits a little later on.
