TR7 rear axle

Is there an alternative rear axle that I can fit to my TR7 now I have fitted a 4.4litre v8 leyland P76 motor

Now I dunno if the R31 Skylines you got in NZ were sourced from Oz or Japan, so I couldn't say if you will be able to find one locally with any ease. Are you looking for a taller ratio or a stronger diff from another car?

Hi Rog, I believe our NZ member Jolyon 39 aquired one of the Skyline rear axles some time back for his TR8 project, then imported an original unit to use instead. He may have it available.

He also did a lot of research on them, so give him an email, & I'm sure he'll help.

I fitted one of these to my 8 about 5 years ago & did a post, "Can he break this one" I think it was called, try the search for the story. They are the same as used in the HSV Monaros & Commodores, & come with an LSD, & discs. They are very tough.

Meanwhile in "my photos" there are a number of photos of of the instillation.

Hi Rog,

Im in Albany North shore I fitted a Jag MkII in mine yet to have it running. I was going for reliability, hence the Toyota g/box as well.
Easy enough to fit. Some Guys go for the Jag independent suspension, but its a lot more work in fitting.

The standard one in it at the moment has a whine so thought I should
fit something a bit meatier. The Nissan unit sounds a good way to go.
the engine is running a 4 barrel holley,3/4 race cam, extractors
and celica 5 spd.

Hi Rog,
Welcome to the forum, my fathers car is a 4.2L med tune and that has
a Holden Torana/Sunbird diff that was modified by Carl Hansen for his
racing TR7 V8, at that time it had about 300hp. The axles were redrilled to 4 stud and brackets changed, one advantage with these
is the diff head comes out the front in one complete unit, also LSD's are available from utes and a variety of ratios.
