new soft top fitting

Postby manwithtool » 30 Jul 2012 10:50

Apologies as I'm sure this has been covered before. I have J Clays' instructions, but wondered what glue I should use on the header rail to glue the Mohair hood to it ? I'm in the UK so need something local.

Any tips always welcome of course !

If it isn't broken, I can still fix it

3M Super 77 or Rubber & Vinyl 80.

An addendum:
After conversing with Amy, it became clear that I had left the last thing out of my instructions. Just below the rain gutter over each door, there is a strip of vinyl that should hang down and the window lays against it. This seals the window to the top.

1st: The upper corner of that strip should come right up against the windscreen frame.
2nd: There is a strip of vinyl about 1/2" wide and 4" long attached to the bottom of that front corner of the window seal. The purpose of the strip is to keep the seal in the proper position. The tag end of the strip attaches to the header rail of the hood frame just in front of the plastic cover that goes along the hood frame. Simply pop rivet the tag end to the header rail and trim the extra length.

jclay:
That is where I had some trouble the other day: getting a pop rivet through all of the material and frame. I used an awl to make holes in the fabric then installed it using a small machine screw with washers and nut w/ nylon threadlock insert. It worked fine.
