fuel filler seal rubber

hi new to forum rubber seal perished on fuel filler cap
rimmers do not stock or potential supply any help appreciated

I used a piece of foam rubber I got from Michael's (a craft store) for the foam rubber that sits below the top cap and the rubber that seals to the gas pipe lip I used red rubber gasket material to cut out as I believe it is gasoline resistant.

I get mine from Robsport - 01763 262263. It's vital the rubber on the petrol cap does not perish otherwise water will get into the tank. And we all know the disastrous consequences of that!

And to further avoid water settling/getting trapped in the fuel filler recess:
Put extra washers (plastic or stainless) <u>between</u> the layers where the screws go through the bottom
of the recess! This makes the drain-through area larger and thus less risk of the recess filling up with
trapped water.

And to avoid it even further blow out the recessed area around the filler neck with compressed air from time to time.
(of course stuff a rag or similar in the fuel fuller neck to avoid dirt getting into the tank)

It is a very good idea! Well done Odd. Even more useful on the large petrol cap cars which have less of a water well and therefore more prone to the water ingress problem.

I have a leather flap mounted over mine to minimize any water getting into the petrol filler neck area.
