4 speed transmission oil

Hi,
I took out my '76 and the 4 speed transmission is growling a bit more in first gear than normal, so I'm planning in doing a fluid change.
I've used the search function regarding gearbox oil(s) and all seem to discuss the oil(s) for 5 speed transmissions. What about those of us that are short a gear? Would Pennzoil Syncromesh be a good choice?

Any old 90wt gearbox oil will do. The issue with LT77 gearbox oils lies in the presence of an oil pump. With the 4-speed lacking an oil pump thus being lubricated by the splash method, the choice of oil is not critical.

This is also why a 4-speed car can be towed way on down the road with no harm done to the transmission. The 5-speed car must have the rear wheels elevated or the drive shaft disconnected. Failure to do so will do great damage to the gearbox. Without the layshaft turning and operating the oil pump, things go bad in a hurry.

I think the problem with the 5 speed is the known eccentricity of the LT77 is the second gear notchyness (otherwise known as the second gear crunch) which Pennzoil Synchromesh seems to handle best. For the 4 speed, any GL4 oil will work (don't use GL5).
