Hi I have only just joined this forum due to tragic circumstances I have to dispose of a tr7 I need a rough valuation

so my family does not get ripped of

The car we have is A 1980 convertible tr7 with a rover 3.5 conversion

from the paperwork ive found the car was prepared By S&S preparations

diff,brakes,suspension were all uprated

It runs a rover 3.5 with a holley carb and a sd1 gearbox

Any help or info would appreciated


let me explain I'm in Medway Kent the car was laid up over winter as my father in law only uses it in the summer/spring months he has recently passed away and we never got round to putting it back on the road for him this year. I my self build pre 70s hot rod in my back garage so putting a ticket on its not a problem having had a good look round the car today it is in good condition but not concourse there are a few bubbles on the bonnet but that's it no rot in the sills etc . It looks like it has a a respray in its time not just a blow over the car is a nice metallic blue with a set of 5 spoke after market alloys it could do with a new hood and the interior could do with a re-trim I don't have the paper work to hand but off the top of my head it did have a S&S ENGINEERS REPORT from the 90's with stage 2 conversion diff changed etc,etc form what i can see its a proper conversion not just the likes of what ill be temped to do in my own garage
The Oil pressure is good but that off a tims Gauge ?? but the engine runs sweet with no knocking or tapping

We Cant bear looking at this car as it was his pride and joy and I cant face taking the engine and box out to put in a project of my own has it does not seem right

I ve got some one over tomorrow to look at the car with the intention of buying it with another car he owns but I really can not put a figure on this TR7

WE WOULD RATHER IT GO TO SOME ONE THAT APPRECIATES IT THAN SOME WHOSE LOOKING TO MAKE A CHEAP BUCK ON IT

Hi Adam,

Welcome To The Forum, i wish it was under more happy circumstances.

The car is only ever going to be worth what someone will pay for it. Prices vary wildly with TR7 V8's you only have to watch Fleabay for a week or two.

you could always contact one of the TR Specialists, they wont give you full market value, if they have it of you but on the other hand wont rip you off and you will have an idea what its worth

Some pictures would help us....and a brand new MOT is ALL important. With fuel prices as they are - not many can afford V8 mpg figures these days...... the 2 litre is much more affordable. But I would guess something like £2500 would be fair...

Hi Adam. Sorry to hear your story. The TR7, especially a converted V8, is never going to fetch a top price in the current market so there isn't that much of a difference in price of an average car or a tasty one if you know what I mean. The car would have to have history or be a real minter to attract more than £3-4K. The point is that since no one is likely to get rich trading TR7s you don't have to stress too much about getting ripped off. Bmc's valuation seems about right to me. Good luck.

Many thanks for replying the price bmc is the type of price I was thinking around I was offered a very low price on sunday so still debating what to do next. I dont think the mrs or mother in law want to see it go.
