Door alignment question

Viewed from the rear the back edge of the drivers door on my car sits about 3mm proud of the B post, all the way down It really bugs me!

I have tried adjusting the door striker, the door opens & shuts perfectly but still sits proud at the rear edge.

It looks like the whole door needs to move inwards to align the panel. Is there any adjustment available by loosening the nuts inside the door where they mount to the hinges, i.e. can I efectively move the door inwards on those studs?

Or is there another way to adjust alignment?

Hi Tony,

Thats how they were made !!! It was a result when you carried out a PDI ( Pre Delivery Inspection ) the door actually shut [;)]

You can adjust where the hinge mounts to the door (there are 3 studs on the hinge visible once you have the door trim off), there is also shims between the door and hinge to give fore and aft adjustment of the door. It can be really tricky to adjust the door so all gaps are equal as you adjust one gap and it naturally alters another gap. How is the sill to door gap as this will alter if you drop the door down on the hinges. Also how does your swage line align ( if that not to personal [:p] ) ?

Has yours ever had door skins on it as this can cause alignment 'issues'

Check the door restraint, I had a problem with the spring inside freezing stopping the door from closing properly. If the problem is the rear of the door realigning the hinges wont help.

When restoring my DHC one of the hinge points in the A-post needed a careful whack with a big hammer to get the lower rear corner in line ...

Thanks guys. Theo, my door looks very like your second picture (is that 't Kreng?).

Maybe there is not much I can do about it then. The door sits fine in the aperture, shuts perfectly & my swage line is OK thank you John[:)]

The passenger side is just right - obviously they were only aligning one side correctly in the factory that day[:p]

I think Bean's coupe is not an example of door alignment but of door frame pressing not being correct. Or it was warped as/or before the door skin was applied. Is it a Speke car Beans?

It indeed is "t Kreng and she's Solihull built.

The RH door was a new old stock I found at an old Leyland dealer.
Door is either for a Canley or a Speke car, definitely not Solihull.

Both my doors sat 3-4 mm proud, I loosened off the striker enough so when I closed the doors holding out the outside handle so it wouldn't
latch, I pushed the door in until it was sitting flush with the body
panel. Then opened the door and re tightened the striker. I did have
to lubricate the restraint like Pete said on my driver door as well.
Both doors now sit perfectly flush. Luckily I have no hinge sag or
misalignment.
