Victoria Air Museum

[FI Spyder]

Sept. 8 we had a run to Victoria Air Museum. There was supposed to be a re-enactment of Battle of Britain (without the airplanes, don't ask me how). They didn't show up but we got in for free (donation optional). |Great day for a drive anyway and most stayed overnight for Fort Rod Hill next day (I went home). Only took a couple of pictures, not in the mood I guess.

We had a Triumph club run recently, which included a visit to a small town airstrip to see a collection of aircraft. Lots of interesting stuff, but the most impressive were a couple of 2/3 scale Spitfires. These were full working aircraft, with Ford V8 power.

One was doing circuits, sounding & looking fantastic. Talking to the pilot, an old service fly boy like me, he reckoned they were about the sweetest flying thing he had flown.

That should be the start of a reenactment.

A relatively local airstrip here has a workshop where they turn out WW1 aircraft. Stunning workmanship. Just another example of how NZ is a few decades behind the North hemisphere - thank goodness. I think there is less enthusiasm here for the faster aircraft seeing as it so easy to overshoot the country. [:)]
